I am a freelance Industrial Designer with 20+ years of experience in the industrial design of medical devices, consumer housewares, exercise equipment, computer equipment, industrial equipment, telecommunications accessories such as cut and sew carry cases, home and office furniture and military transportation. I have been fortunate to have done projects with companies such as Physio-Control, Boeing, Precor, Progressive International, Spacelabs Healthcare, Intermec, Beckman Instruments, Datacom, Motorola, Ericsson, Johnson & Johnson, 3M, Bayer, Lifescan, Data General and Sonic Blue.
Clients like the breadth of experience that I can bring to the table from working with large and small companies on simple to complex projects. I can work in all phases of a product development program from ideation through to product manufacturing providing all Industrial Design aspects. Whether you need a quick 3D computer (CAD) model and a photorealistic rendering that can be used in advanced marketing materials and as a visual image of the proposed design of a product to present to venture investors to help obtain initial rounds of seed stage start-up capital or a production ready CAD dataset for manufacturing I can assist in those areas. As an innovative Industrial Designer I am named on eight patents two of which I am the sole inventor and I enjoy working with clients to help them achieve their vision of success for their product.

Industrial Design is a process and I utilize a multi-step procedure for user-centered Industrial Design that includes:

Research market and user

Explore multiple Ideas

Detail the final idea in CAD modeling and renderings

Implement via drawing packages and specifications for engineering and manufacturing
Research gives an understanding of competitors in the marketplace and uncovers important characteristics of the user’s story using information from techniques such as ethnographic observation. Explore looks at multiple ideas and concepts in sketch form to address the discovered aspects of the marketplace and the user’s story. Refine finds the best ideas in sketch and preliminary 3D modeling form and combines them into the final design concept. Detail takes the final concept into CAD where dimensions, parts and assemblies are finalized for the client’s approval. Implement creates the drawing package including the specifications of the final design with the CAD dataset ready for the final mechanical engineering and manufacturing engineering in preparation for manufacturing.
To conceptualize my designs I use hand sketching, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, SolidWorks CAD and SolidWorks Visualize The services I have provided include user research, usability, competitive product market research and analysis, Human Factors, ergonomics, hand drawn ideation sketches, Illustrator and Photoshop images, SolidWorks 3D CAD modeling, SolidWorks Visualize for photorealistic renderings suitable for advanced marketing materials and CAD files datasets suitable for 3D printing or plastic injection molding tooling and product drafting manufacturing drawings and documentation.
